Why did you apply for an IAS scholarship?
I applied for the IAS scholarship because I thought it would help improve my hockey, fitness and skills. I would like to develop my skills and overall hockey performance to a representative standard.
What is your pre-competition routine and how long have you been doing it?
Go for bigger runs than I usually do. I also stretch every night, practice more on my skills and flicks at the park. To write down what I need to do in those games. I have been doing this for a year.
Who’s your favourite professional athlete?
My favourite athlete would have to be Jamie Dwyer, captain of the Hockeyroos, because of his sportsmanship, his total coverage of the field, his attacking and tackling abilities and his accuracy and finishing in the circle.
What is your best memory from playing your sport?
Being a senior member of a local junior hockey team, assisting the new and learning players to understand and play the game fairly and skilfully but mostly to enjoy the sport.
If you weren’t playing this sport what would you be doing and why?
I would be playing a different sport as I would still want to be active and I love all sports.
When did you start playing your sport and how did you get started?
I started playing in 2006 when I was eight. My siblings and parents played hockey when they were young and some still do. I wanted to try what they were doing.
What are the greatest challenges balancing school and sport?
Time is the major factor and the management of it. With school, having to do homework, assignments and studying. With hockey it is training and playing for local and representative teams plus my personal practice and training.
What is your biggest disappointment in sport?
I have never had any major disappointments in my sport, although the loss of my first grade grand final was disappointing but not majorly.
What are your plans beyond school?
To go to university but I’m unable to decide what to study. I am also striving to complete my sporting goals.
If I could live anywhere in the world it would be?
I would stay in Australia, as it has everything that I love.
