Blayney Public School student, Jake Ryan has been head hunted for a prestigious musical opportunity.

Some years ago, John Morrison a famous jazz musician and former student of Blayney Public School helped to set up the combined primary schools big band called Serious Fun. Students from six different primary schools in Bathurst put forward their top music students to audition for places in the band and they rehearse and perform together on a regular basis.

The Serious Fun band has been drawing students from Bathurst’s public schools for many years now, with the first members graduating into the Mt Gambier Generations of Jazz Academy following very successful HSC efforts.

This year, Blayney will have its very own Jake Ryan in the band. Jake plays trumpet in the Blayney Public School Band and was asked to join the Serious Fun band.

“I was a bit nervous about joining the band, but when I went to the first rehearsal I found I knew some of the other players from the Monster Band days I have attended,” Jake said. “The music is more complex but I am looking forward to playing it. It will be fun.”

Jake will travel to Bathurst High School each Monday morning for rehearsals with Serious Fun.
