Blayney High student Maddison Perkins scooped the Youth of the Year award at the Bathurst Macquarie Lion’s Club on 18 February. She beat three students from Bathurst in interviews and public speaking challenges.
Blayney High principal Susan Jones said: “Maddison handled both of these tasks well especially after hearing the first speaker who touched on a similar topic to the one she had prepared.
“Having had the wonderful opportunity to be a Rotary exchange student in 2012, Maddison spoke passionately about the importance of learning a language and the beauty of the many experiences she had in communicating in different ways across Europe.”
Maddison now goes on to the district competition on 3 March.
Ms Jones said: “It was also a tribute to the role of service clubs in our district that she was participating in a Lions’ club competition and using her Rotary exchange experiences for inspiration.”
